Dartmouth College Campus Culture:

There's a great sense of school pride and love for all things Dartmouth. Which probably explains the very high retention rate and the very high alumni giving rate. Dartmouth lives by the "work hard, play hard" mentality. Classes are very rigorous and students take work seriously, but they always manage to go out on weekends and Wednesdays for Greek meetings.

More than 90% of students live in on-campus housing, which includes residence halls, fraternity and sorority houses, college-approved coeds and undergraduate societies. Approximately 60% of students are members of Greek Life organizations, which serve as the hubs of social life at Dartmouth. While there are plenty of open-to-campus events, there is an equal number of member-only events.

Students say that Dartmouth is the perfect size and that you often see familiar faces as you walk around campus, but it's not like you'll know all of your classmates by the end of your four years here. And Since Dartmouth has the D-Plan, (refers to the flexibility Dartmouth gives its students in choosing when they take classes and when they're on break) only 3/4 of the student body is on campus during any given term. The student body as a whole is very accomplished.

The Outing Club is the oldest and largest collegiate outing club in the country and is the most popular student organization at Dartmouth, offering outdoor activities, expeditions, gear rentals and courses.
