Cornell University

BIG RED!

Cornell University Traditions & Pastimes:

Hanging out with friends on Slope Day, taking part in Dragon Day, climbing to the top of McGraw Tower for a Chimes concert, savoring a late-night snack at Louie’s Hot Truck, Eating ice cream at the Dairy Bar or attending anyone of the numerous frat parties. Hiking and exploring the area is also enjoyed by many of the students.

Cornell University Campus Culture:

With just under 16,000 undergraduates most Cornell students agree that you can start to feel isolated if you do not get involved. With over 1,000 clubs and organizations Cornell gives its students an abundance of options to make friends. Also since Cornell is in a more rural area, the focus of both the students and the surrounding community is on Cornell. Students do not go off and get lost in the city for the weekend - they tend to hang around and do things on Campus with friends which has created a strong sense of community.

Cornell is known as a work hard play hard school and students agree that overall the student body is friendly. Students also like the fact that they are surrounded by like minded students which helps since most usually have an intense work load and knowing that they are surrounded by people who want to achieve great things makes tackling the work a little easier.

First-year students live together on north campus, and the university has housing options for upperclassmen and graduate students, though many choose to live off campus. Cornell has a thriving Greek life, with more than 60 fraternity and sorority chapters. Greek life is a big part of the campus culture.
